Universidade de Évora presents DiadSea at the Lamprey Days in Minho River
On 20 February, Catarina Mateus (Universidade de Évora) disseminated DiadSea during the ‘Lamprey Days‘, organised by ADRIMINHO (Ass. Des. Rural Integrado Vale do Minho) in Caminha, Portugal.
This event, hosted by the Municipality of Caminha, brought together policymakers, researchers and regional stakeholders to discuss the conservation and sustainable management of the sea lamprey. The event featured the participation of the Portuguese Secretary of State for Fisheries and the Sea, Salvador Malheiro, alongside representatives from ADRIMINHO, the Municipality of Caminha and academia.
Catarina’s talk, ‘30 years of research into the sea lamprey in Portugal‘, explored the path taken towards the sustainable management of this diadromous fish, whose preservation is key to the gastronomy, culture and traditions of the Minho Valley.
The conference was held in the context of the initiative ‘Minho River Lamprey: A Dish of Excellence‘, which ran until 5 April across participating restaurants in Caminha and other municipalities of the Minho Valley. The initiative aimed to promote the Minho River lamprey while highlighting the gastronomy, culture and traditions associated with the region.
